This role provides technical leadership to development teams, ensures adherence to architecture and development standards, and drives the successful implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions. The Technical Lead is accountable for solution delivery, technical governance, DevOps practices, and operational excellence across D365 F&O environments. This requires expertise in X++, Dynamics 365 F&O architecture, integrations, reporting, extensions, and Azure technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ERP processes and proven experience delivering enterprise-scale Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or Retail solutions. The role is integral to the software development lifecycle, including resolving incidents and problems as needed. Success requires working within agreed internal development standards, completing technical documentation as part of the project lifecycle, and continually seeking ways to improve systems and processes to enhance IT services to the organization.
DIMENSIONS AND ROLE CONTEXT
• Leads a team of 5-10 D365 developers
• Works across multiple D365 workstreams and projects supporting European business units and ERP domains
• Collaborates closely with Solution Architects, Functional Consultants, Business Analysts, Infrastructure Teams, Cloud Engineering Teams, and Security Teams
• Operates in a matrix organization across multiple teams and time zones
• Responsible for ensuring technical quality, delivery standards, release readiness, and operational support
• Provides mentorship and technical guidance to development teams
• Drives adoption of development standards and best practices across teams
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
• Lead the design and development of Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations solutions
• Review and approve technical designs, code implementations, and deployment plans
• Establish development standards, coding guidelines, and best practices
• Mentor and coach developers while promoting engineering excellence
• Conduct architecture and code reviews
• Ensure developments are designed for optimal performance
SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT
• Design, develop, and implement customizations and extensions within Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
• Develop solutions using X++, Visual Studio, and the Dynamics 365 Extension Framework
• Customize forms, tables, classes, workflows, security roles, and business processes
• Develop and maintain batch jobs, services, and business events
• Implement enhancements while adhering to Microsoft's extensibility best practices
INTEGRATION DEVELOPMENT
• Build and maintain integrations between D365 F&O and external applications
• Develop data exchange solutions using Data Management Framework (DMF), OData Services, Custom Services, Business Events, and Dual Write
• Utilize Azure technologies including Logic Apps, Service Bus, Azure Functions, and API Management
• Troubleshoot and optimize integration performance
REPORTING & ANALYTICS
• Design and develop reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Electronic Reporting (ER), Financial Reporting, and Power BI
• Develop data entities and support reporting and analytics requirements
• Ensure report performance and accuracy
TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE
• Perform unit testing and support system integration testing and user acceptance testing
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards
• Troubleshoot defects and provide timely resolution
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and performance requirements
APPLICATION SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE
• Provide ongoing support for D365 F&O environments
• Investigate and resolve production incidents and technical issues
• Support platform updates, upgrades, hotfixes, and deployments
• Monitor system health and recommend improvements
DEVOPS & RELEASE MANAGEMENT
• Support source control, build automation, and deployment processes using Azure DevOps
• Contribute to CI/CD implementation and release planning
• Maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and support materials
• Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and performance requirements
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• 8+ years of hands-on Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations development experience
• Proven experience developing solutions for Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Manufacturing, or Retail modules
• Experience working on full project lifecycles including implementation, enhancement, and support
• Experience in Agile delivery environments
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead technical teams
• Experience supporting production environments and resolving incidents
